Barcelona Considers Returning Marcus Rashford’s Loan or Paying Manchester United £4.3 Million

According to Spanish media reports, Barcelona is considering sending Marcus Rashford back to Manchester United early due to his poor start to his loan spell. Rashford’s loan period runs until the summer of 2026, with a buyout option of approximately €30 million.

At the end of July, Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United, ending his recent struggles at Old Trafford. Rashford played in all three of the first three matches of the new La Liga season, totaling 95 minutes, but has yet to impress. In Barcelona’s 3-2 victory over Levante, Rashford started but was substituted at halftime, with the team trailing by two goals. Barcelona then scored three goals in the second half to secure the victory.
According to Spanish media El Nacional, there are concerns within the Barcelona board about Rashford’s performance. The media outlet stated that the club had hoped for better performances from the England international but now considers his performances “disappointing” and hopes he will improve quickly. However, their patience is limited.
The report indicates that Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco were initially reluctant to sign Rashford, preferring Nico Williams or Dias. Coach Hansi Flick was the one pushing for a transfer, believing it would help Rashford regain his form and that he believed the England striker could play a vital role in the team. If Barcelona decides to return Rashford early, they will have to pay a fee of approximately £4.3 million. Chelsea had to pay a similar £5 million release clause to Manchester United after refusing to buy out Sancho at the end of last season.
